TEN TIPS FOR MAKING A GREAT PERFORMANCE VIDEO

    1. Dress nicely…it’s a performance! and wear SHOES, especially if you are using the pedal!
    2. Pick a good angle…. video should be in profile, as though we are watching a recital.  A static shot (no moving or shaky camera) is a must! Look into device stands for stable photo….
    3. Take the video in landscape….think widescreen!
    4. Face and Fingers!  We need to see these please!  (Feet too, if possible…so we can see the pedals)
    5. Your phone takes great videos (but the camera on the screen side is a lesser quality than the camera on the back!)
    6. Unclutter your background for a professional looking video
    7. Also have a quiet background…no cooking sounds, phone ringing, barking dogs, chirping pet birds, crying babies…..make your video at a quiet time
    8. No need to announce your piece or bow….just play!
    9. Start with your hands in your lap, and end with your hands in your lap.  Allow about three seconds of silence at the beginning and end of each video.
    10. Sit up tall, smile and play your best!

EVEN MORE TIPS…..

Record your recital pieces individually (one piece per video). For some events, like sonata festivals, you may need to record multiple movements in one camera take

If you use your music,  make copies of extra pages so you don’t have to turn any pages for performance.

Feel free to decorate for holiday and theme recitals!   For Halloween recitals, costumes are encouraged!

Have a funny blooper, or want to show off your outfit?  Send outtakes along as well….they are great for our recital trailers!

and of course, make sure your piano is tuned!
